Game Play

  • Games are composed of two 12-minute halves with a 1-minute halftime.
  • All players must wear a helmet with a strap and hockey skates. Protective equipment is optional but highly recommended. 
  • No goalie equipment or sticks allowed
  • To determine which goal to defend a coin toss is conducted. Teams switch after halftime.
  • There are no off-sides or icing calls.
  • Goals are scored from the attacking side of center ice.

Administration: Prior to Games

  • Players can only play on one team.
  • All teams much have similar jerseys or uniforms. Type kinds are preferred, a light and a dark.
  • All players must check in at the Player Information table in the warming house before their first game to sign a liability waiver and obtain a wristband. This wristband must be worn throughout the entire tournament weekend.
  • A representative from your team must attend a rules meeting before your first game.

Dust off your skates and gear up for the Fargo Pond Hockey Classic, where hockey meets the elements in its purest form, right on the ponds! This annual tournament celebrates the sport in its original, natural glory. With multiple rinks and a cozy warming tent, it's an experience designed for those who love winter's favorite pastime.

We offer three divisions to accommodate different skill levels: Novice, Silver, and Gold. Each division follows the same rules and takes place at the beautiful Lindenwood Park. Teams can roster up to 6 players, ages 18 and older. Get ready for fast-paced, 3-on-3 action with no goalies and two 12-minute periods! Depending on your division, the tournament takes place across two weekends.

Registration Fees

  • Early Bird Registration: $220 per team | Now – November 30

  • Regular Registration: $270 per team | December 1 – January 11

  • Late Registration: $320 per team | January 12–28

Looking for a Team?

Want to participate in the Fargo Pond Hockey Classic but don't have a team? We've got you covered!

Register as a Free Agent and select your preferred division (Novice, Silver, or Gold). Free agents will register and pay individually to secure their spot while we work to connect players with available teams.

If we have enough free agents to form a team in your division, we'll connect you via group email so you can finalize your roster and get ready to hit the ice!

If we're unable to place you on a team, your registration fee will be refunded.

If your team has room for an additional player and you're open to welcoming a free agent, let us know! We're happy to help connect registered free agents with teams looking to fill their rosters.

Whether you're joining solo or bringing your crew, we want to help get as many players on the ice as possible!

Penalties

  • Penalties are called for rule infractions. Penalties called by rink manager/official are final. A minor penalty results in possession of the puck awarded to the opposing team. Rink officials have the discretion to also award a goal to the opposing team when a minor penalty is flagrant and/or a team is consistently playing in a reckless manner.

Game Play

  • Games are composed of two 10 min halves with a 1 min halftime.

  • No goalie equipment or goalie sticks permitted.
  • There are no off-sides or icing calls.
  • Goals are scored from the attacking side of the center ice.
  • All games are running time and substitutions can be made during play.
  • If a puck goes out of bounds a new puck is put into play.
  • Goaltending is not allowed.
  • Referees call out the score after each goal.

Prior to Game

  • Players can only play on one team.
  • All players must check-in at the Player Information Table in the warming house before their first game to ensure they have the proper liability waiver signed and obtain a wristband. Wristbands must be worn throughout the day. All players must have a liability waiver signed by a guardian. 
  • A team Coach must attend a rule meeting before the team's first game.
  • Substitutions must be made prior to the first game.
  • There is one rink manager to monitor play.

Youth Pond Hockey Day

Get ready for a day of frosty fun at the annual Youth Pond Hockey Day tournament in the heart of Lindenwood Park! Watch your kids hit the ice and experience the joy of hockey the old-fashioned way—out in the crisp, open air!

We're gearing up for an action-packed day filled with friendly competition, outdoor fun, and plenty of smiles! Each team will play three games in this jamboree-style event, featuring two 10-minute halves per game.

Our divisions are designed for young players of all skill levels, with 10U, 8U, and 6U divisions (all coed). Teams can roster up to 8 players, but squads of 6 are recommended to maximize playing time and fun!

Games feature fast-paced 4-on-4 action that's sure to keep everyone cheering! Between games, warm up in our cozy warming tent, grab some snacks and drinks, and enjoy roasting marshmallows around the outdoor fire pits!

Does your child want to participate in Youth Pond Hockey Day but doesn't have a team? We'd love to help get them on the ice! Register your child as a Free Agent and select their age division (6U, 8U, or 10U). Free agents will register and pay individually upfront while we work to connect players with available teams or other free agents. If we have enough free agents to form a team in your child's division, we'll connect parents and guardians via group email so you can coordinate your roster and get ready for game day!

If we're unable to place your child on a team, their individual registration fee will be refunded.
