Activity: Matching Game of Dia De Los Muertos vocabulary

Dia De Los Muertos is deeply rooted in the Mexican culture. True to Broadway Square's mission to educate and foster an authentic cultural appreciation of this celebration by the public, we think it's important to spend a little time learning some of the relevant language often spoken when discussing or planning for Dia De Los Muertos.

Broadway Square created a matching game where players are encouraged to match the English word for different elements of Dia De Los Muertos celebrations with the Spanish word referring to the same thing.

Activity: Alter Display Coloring Sheet

Tell us who you would set an alter up for and show us what you would include on this alter. Remember, alters include colorful, traditionally festive elements, as well as sweet offerings for your loved one to enjoy - typically these include candies and baked goods your relative was particularly fond of.

Crayons, markers, colored pencils and coloring sheets with empty alters to be decorated and personalized will be available.

Presentation: Building an Alter

Learn the basics of building your own "ofrednas," or small personal alters honoring a loved one that has moved on.

Creating alters to your deceased ancestors is a key element of Dia De Los Muertos, and there are some basic recommendations for how to best assemble a worthy display. A Broadway Square presenter will provide a list of recommendations and walk you through what you need to get started.
