Fargo Park District Adult Basketball: Rules

National Federation High School rules will govern play with the following exceptions.

  1. Rosters – Team rosters are required to be turned in to the scorekeeper before playing your first game. A player may only be on one roster per league. The deadline for roster changes is Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Players will only be allowed to be on one roster.
  2. Each game shall consist of two twenty-minute running time halves. The clock will stop only for time outs or when stopped by the officials. The clock will stop for all dead balls, the final two minutes of each half. Halftime break is three minutes.
  3. Only team rosters, team running scores, team fouls, time-outs and personal fouls will be kept by the table official.
  4. Each team has three 45-second time-outs per game.
  5. Overtime periods are two minutes with one-45 second timeout, no carry over. The third overtime will be sudden death, the first team to score wins.
  6. A second unsportsmanlike technical foul in a game will result in ejection and suspension from that game and the next league game. If a person receives three unsportsmanlike technical fouls they will be ejected for the remainder of the season. Technical fouls may be assessed to the bench of any team whose players, coaches, or fans who are displaying poor sportsmanship.
  7. Officials may impose up to a five-minute cool down period (clocked by scorer) without a technical foul. If a player receives an unsportsmanlike technical foul, that player is required to sit for five minutes.
  8. NO DUNKING….. Anyone dunking or hanging on the rim before, during or after a game will be ejected from that game and the next league game and be held liable for any damages.
  9. Game time is forfeit time. Teams must have four players to begin a game. Warm-up balls are not provided.
  10. Jerseys – Teams are required to have like colored jerseys with numbers on at least one side, both sides are preferred.
  11. Free throw rule – The players in marked lane spaces can enter on the release of the free throw.
  12. Awards – Individual t-shirts will be awarded to league champions. Team trophies/plaques will be awarded for league tournaments.
  13. Respect – Please respect the game, your teammates, opponents and officials.
