Help area seniors in need by volunteering for Meals on Wheels. During the month of April, Valley Senior Services is asking for volunteers in Fargo to help deliver Meals on Wheels to area seniors from our North Broadway Station and Olivet Lutheran Church locations.
We need your help and are calling for more volunteers in the Fargo area. In order to keep our seniors safe in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, we closed our senior centers which lead the demand for home-delivered meals to increase by 20%. We now provide meals to over 1,400 seniors every day. Not only has the number of meals increased, it has also significantly impacted our volunteer pool.
Meals on Wheels is a program designed for people 60 years and older who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. Many of these individuals receiving Meals on Wheels do not have family close by and most of the time, have little to no social interaction other than the delivery of these meals. For this reason, the gratitude shown by the recipients of these meals is invaluable to those who volunteer. While there is a distinct need for volunteers during this time, volunteers are also needed year-round for this program and are greatly appreciated.
All volunteers must be 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or authorized adult. Prior to volunteering, a background check release form, photo release form, and volunteer application need to be completed. To download these forms, visit the volunteer page of ValleySeniorServices.org. Background checks and photo release forms should be returned to the Valley Senior Services office (2801 32nd Ave S.) in Fargo. Volunteers use their personal vehicle and should plan to spend about one-hour delivering meals. Meals on Wheels volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and proof of current insurance.
