Edgewood Golf Course Driving Range Improvements

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to award bids to Accelerated Green Works, Inc. for the addition of an artificial tee-line to the Edgewood Driving Range.

The project will involve installing a ribbon of concrete and adhering a strip of turf to the concrete to create a more resilient tee line for golfers. The artificial tee line will primarily be used in the spring and fall when the natural turf grass is not growing naturally. It can also be used when the course experiences extremely wet conditions and at times when staff need to do maintenance to the natural grass areas of the driving range. A similar tee line was installed at Osgood Public Golf Course last summer and has been favorably received by both staff and golfers.

Fargo Park District Logo and Brand Refresh

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a refreshed logo and color palette to represent the Fargo Park District.

To increase readability, the logo’s letters were aligned and the sun that was part of the “O” in Fargo was removed. To represent the Fargo Park District’s natural attributes, the “G” in Fargo was designed to represent a river and the three iconic pine trees, which have represented the Park District for years, were not changed. The logo was also simplified to one color and Fargo Park District was traditionally capitalized.

Playground Replacement Projects at Woodhaven South Park and Village West Park

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve bids to My Turn Playsystems for the replacement of playgrounds at both Woodhaven South Park and Village West Park.

Construction on park playgrounds will begin this summer. To view renderings click HERE and scroll to page 25.

Guaranteed Maximum Price for Fargo Parks Sports Complex Phase II

Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contract with McGough Construction for Phase II of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex. The GMP for this project was approved at $38,463,293.00.

A GMP is the most that a contractor can bill a customer for a project. These agreements require customers to compensate contractors for their direct costs, but only to a certain threshold. Phase II of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex was split into 37 bid packages and received 84 bids from subcontractors. Bid prices were favorable and bids were reviewed both internally and with external design teams. A list of add/alternates for the project were then added and combined with bids to determine the overall GMP.

Sale of the Robert D. Johnson Recreation Building

Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a counteroffer of $1,120,100.00 to Cass County Commissioners for the sale of the Robert D. Johnson Recreation Center located at 1104 2nd Ave. S.

The Robert D. Johnson Recreation Center was originally purchased by the Fargo Park District in 1996 to provide space for the FM Activity Center and additional Park District staff offices. With completion of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex slated for spring of 2024, all programming and staff offices will be moved out of Robert D. Johnson and into those facilities. As such, Park District leadership and Commissioners are working to decide what is next for the building.

The Cass County Commission took formal action at the April 17th Commission Meeting and presented a formal offer of $750,000 for the sale of the building, contingent upon a satisfactory building inspection report. The most recent appraisal listed the property value at $1,270,000.
