The Fargo Park District, City of Fargo, River Keepers and Cass County Soil Conservation District encourage all residents to participate in the annual Reforest the Red tree planting event from 12:00-7:00 pm on September 8. The event takes place at Ponte's Park located at 1533 South River Road.

Development and cultural practices have prevented natural regeneration of trees along the banks of the river. Planting trees in key areas along the Red creates a buffer to maintain riverbank stability, encourages the growth of native plants, improves water quality and provides habitat for river wildlife. Trees reduce air pollution, cool the atmosphere, prevent soil erosion ease the severity of floods and decrease maintenance costs of roads and parking areas.
