The Fargo Park District Board of Commissioners held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 in the Alex Stern Community Room at the Fargo Parks Sports Center. The board then approved the agenda and consent agenda as presented.

Director's Report
Executive Director Susan Faus recognized staff for a successful Firefly Night, which was held on August 1, 2026 at Trollwood Park. Families enjoyed a night under the stars with a plethora of activities including sound baths, acoustic music, and a twilight stroll through the park. This event was the result of a public engagement, as a main request from the community was a nature-based event. Susan highlighted another successful engagement with the public, an ongoing project to work with local Girl Scouts to bring 10 new Little Free Libraries to Fargo parks. Girl Scouts have begun to build these Little Free Libraries and Park District staff expect to install the book sharing spaces in the coming months. Susan then discussed the record-breaking golf season, thanking the Fargo Golf Staff for the work they put in over the course of the season. Additionally, Fargo Park Pools are nearing the end of the season, with closing hours being posted on the Fargo Parks website. Finally, Susan ended the Director's Report by announcing park updates in the works for 123 Park and Cannon Park, following a community engagement with the Madison neighborhood to understand what the residents would like to see placed.
Approval of Covey Ranch Developers Agreement
The board approved the Covey Ranch Developers Agreement as presented. This project has been an ongoing collaboration with the City of Fargo and developers. Amenities of this park were guided by the Park System Master Plan and will include a warming/multipurpose building, concrete and natural trails, open prairie space, and a multi-purpose rink area.
Fargo Parks Sports Center Update
The board received an annual update on the Fargo Parks Sports Center. Staff presented numbers from the 2025 calendar year which included over 3,000 hours of Park District programming offered at the Sports Center, more than 26,000 people of all ages utilizing the open play opportunities, and 68 different organizations taking advantage of the available rental space. Current usage hours have the Fargo Parks Sports Center on track to surpass these numbers for 2026. Areas of significant growth include youth and senior programing, use of the indoor walking track, as well as tournaments held at the Sports Center. Initiatives staff identified moving forward include strengthening facility safety and emergency preparedness, advancing professional development and operational consistency, increasing community awareness, and optimizing event hosting capacity and guest experience.
2027 Budget Review
The board received a review of the recommended 2027 budget which will be brought back to the board for approval at the September meeting once balanced.
Approval of Park Board Committee Assignments
The board approved the assignment of Park Board Committees including Planning Committee, Governance Committee, Fargo Park District Foundation, and Fargo Youth Initiative.
Planning Committee Updates
The board received a Planning Committee update reviewing the Covey Ranch Developers Agreement, Riverwood Park Stormwater Outlet Project Repair Bids, Goose Johnson Partner Appreciation Event, the recommended 2027 budget, and the foundation self-funding path.
