Lease Transfer at H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a lease transfer from Fargo Youth Hockey Association Inc. to Safe Athletics for Kids, Inc at the H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena (831 17th Ave N., Fargo).

Safe Athletics for Kids, Inc. recently approached the Fargo Park District seeking approval for a lease transfer of the space. The Board of Directors of Fargo Youth Hockey supports and approved the change in the facility's operation and management.

The agreement reflects the following changes from the original lease:

  1. Updated address of H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena

  1. Updated term of the lease from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2074

  1. Updated section No. 6 to remove language that is no longer valid

  1. Updated section No. 7 to update general liability insurance limit from $500,000 to $2,000,000

  1. Updated section No. 10 to remove language limiting rentals by figure skating, Shanley High School, North High School, South High School or North Dakota State University. Language was added that both parties agree that the premises and building are to be used for ice activities for the community’s benefit. Fees will be set to pay operating costs at or near community market rates

  1. Updated section No. 11 to add language that the tenant must remit payment to landlord within 30 days of receiving invoice from landlord

Permission granted to solicit request for proposals for Park System Master Plan

As part of the consent agenda, Park Board Commissioners voted 5-0 to grant permission for staff to begin the process of soliciting proposals for a Park System Master Planning process set to begin this summer.

A parks and recreation master plan is a comprehensive, long-range strategy for the creation, optimization and maintenance of a park district’s assets. A park system master plan does not focus on one particular park but instead offers a bird’s-eye view of a community’s parks and recreation landscape, both today and beyond.

Most master plans include the following components:

  • Vision

  • Capacity analysis

  • Needs assessments

  • Goals

  • Overall strategy

  • Financial plans

  • Roles and responsibilities

  • Action steps and timelines

  • Key performance indicators

The Fargo Park District is set to engage in park system master planning mid to late summer of 2024. Stay tuned for more information to come soon!
