This month, the Fargo Park District Foundation is asking for your support of the Fargo Sports Complex project, an extraordinary building project that will address a critically unmet need for indoor recreation facilities available to the Fargo community.

Funds raised on Giving Hearts Day will support the construction of a multipurpose indoor recreation facility critical to community wellness and the growth of recreational opportunities. The Fargo Sports Complex will accommodate many indoor sports, activities, tournaments and special events. Phase one of this project includes an indoor soccer turf field, 4 – 6 full-size basketball courts, an indoor ice sheet, multipurpose space and an indoor walking track.

As Giving Hearts Day approaches, the Fargo Park District Foundation is taking the time to highlight eight Fargo sports organizations and the community benefits the Fargo Sports Complex can provide for their participants. By partnering with local sports organizations like Red River Valley Lacrosse Association, this project also provides for greater opportunities for access to recreational programs for members of our community.

The Red River Valley Lacrosse Association offers both boys and girls lacrosse programs that start at the kindergarten level and goes up to high school varsity. They service 200 kids across all teams and have traveled anywhere from Minneapolis, MN to Rapid City, SD for tournaments.

“I think the Fargo Sports Complex is just going to be a great spot for us to utilize the indoor facility,” said Ryan Kava, Director of Operations for Red River Valley Lacrosse Association. “A lot of the season starts early in the spring and we end up having to wait until the snow comes off the grass and is melted before we can get out. To have the ability to have an indoor facility that you know that is going to be available on game day is a huge plus.”

The Fargo Sports Complex will benefit the Red River Valley Lacrosse Association by offering them a space to hold indoor spring lacrosse camps and gives them the opportunity to host larger tournaments with teams in the community and from out of state, which will help the sport grow.

“My greatest hope is that by this we’d be able to practice and grow the game of lacrosse,” said Kristian Komorowski, a Red River Valley Lacrosse Association athlete.
