Dia De Los Muertos Activities

Día de los Muertos has been celebrated for thousands of years, originating with the Aztecs and Mayans. Like Halloween, the theme is death, but the point of the day is to demonstrate love and respect for deceased family members, who may visit. Festivities traditionally unfold in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy.

Casa Delicia's Eduardo Marcel Sanchez will share the details of this important celebration - its rich history, traditions and the lore and legends of the day - at 4:00 pm to kick off Broadway Square's educational celebration.

Altars (or ofrendas) are a key element of traditional Dia de los Muertos celebrations. They are meant to welcome and honor the visiting spirits of deceased loved ones, rewarding and refreshing them after their journey.

This presentation explores the significance and elements of ofrendas and walks you through how to build your own altar for your deceased loved one on Dia de los Muertos. A sample altar is set up as an example of an ofrenda created for a loved one, showcasing the different items traditionally included.

Many foods, including Pan de Muerto and other sweet treats and special beverages, are part of Dia de los Muertos festivities.

Casa Delicia and Broadway Square are providing recipes and samples of some of these delicious traditional foods!
